How ZedEnergy Solutions Grew From a Student Idea to a Green Tech Startup

In 2020, a group of engineering graduates from Copperbelt University met at a Hub Hackathon. Their goal? Create affordable solar micro-grids for rural schools.

They formed ZedEnergy Solutions, receiving seed support through the Hub’s StartUp Launchpad programme. With mentorship from GreenCo Power Services and the UNDP Zambia Accelerator Lab, they built their first prototype in Mongu.

Today, ZedEnergy provides clean energy to six schools and two clinics, employing 14 full-time staff and training 30 youth in renewable energy maintenance.

“Our story began in one of the Hub’s small innovation corners. Now, we’re powering dreams across the country,” says co-founder Chisomo Tembo.
